Willie wrote from Fort McHenry in July 1862: “I have not heard from Petterner yet, nor James from Frank Allen, Doan, or Biller” (Willie, July 27, 1862).
A Biller family lived near the Wades in the 15th Ward of Brooklyn in 1855: Joseph Biller, 42, a cooper born in England, his wife Sarah, and their children Josephine, Ann E., Frank A. and Francis E. They are on the same census page as the Wade household (1855 New York State census). Whether the letters’ Biller was one of them is not known.
