Frank S. Pittman
Written as “Frank Pitman”
Frank S. Pittman, 20, enlisted in New York City on September 20, 1862, for three years, and was mustered in as a private in Company B of the 176th New York. The roster has no further record of him (176th roster, p. 1009).
Willie wrote in September 1863 that Frank Pitman, who lived “on the corner of Washington St. and Flushing Ave., near Division Ave.”, was one of the men sent to New York for the conscripts: “Frank Pitman is in our Company and has been sickly. I don’t think he will be out again. He was with James when they were taken prisoner and he gave out on the march to Algiers” (Willie, September 4, 1863).
