Mr. Blood

Lives Behind the Letters 16th Corps d’Afrique and 87th U.S. Colored Infantry, 1863–64

Not identified

James wrote in April 1864 that “Mr. Blood, an acquaintance of mine, a very wealthy and a true Union man, formally Governor of Florida, had 50,000 feet of lumber consigned to him by a house in New York”, and expected $170 a thousand for it (James, April 13, 1864).

No governor of Florida, territorial or state, was named Blood (list of governors of Florida), so the name or the title may have been misheard or misread. Who he was is not known.
