Sgt. Evans

After the fight at Lafourche Crossing, James wrote that “Sgt. Evans was shot 3 times but is yet living” (James, July 6, 1863). James was not there himself, and he says the regiment fought “together with some Connecticut troops”. No Evans appears on the 176th New York’s roster (176th roster, p. 914), so who he was is not known.
