William Webb Wade

William Albert Webb Wade was born in Brooklyn on February 25, 1938, and died in Orange Park, Clay County, Florida, on March 24, 2023. He was a great-grandson of William H. Wade: his father, Frank Wade, was the son of Willie’s son William H. Wade. His middle name came from his mother, Hilda Webb (FamilySearch).

William Webb Wade, a descendant of the brothers, held the original letters and papers that this site publishes (home page). He asked Melissa K. Dewey and David M. Jones to transcribe and edit them, so that the contents of “these fragile and sometimes barely legible papers” would be accessible to his children and grandchildren. He did not want a literal transcription: at his request the editors corrected the writers’ spelling, punctuation and grammar, and kept each writer’s voice (Editors’ Note, 2007).
